Proud to be American - Embarrassed to be Californian

Definitely some mixed feelings on the results of this election.

On the positive side, I feel we, as Americans, showed the rest of the world that our system can and does work. If we don't like the direction our leaders are headed, we can (and will) replace them - without violence.

I would also like to think that we also showed the world we had gotten past our racism but I'm not sure that is true. A large factor in Obama's win was the black vote, and many of them voted for him (or even voted at all) just because he is black - which is just as racist as voting/not voting for McCain because he is white. Racism is alive and well in the US.

All in all, I think the Presidential race/outcome was a big step forward for the US, but the Religious Right of California erased all those gains by getting Prop 8 pushed through.

Come on people!!! A Constitutional Ammendment to deny people rights?!?!? The state Constitution is there to tell the STATE what it can/cannot do. It is NOT there for the people to tell other people what they can/cannot do - this is what laws are for (and the Constitution is there to protect the people from UNJUST laws). What is next? A Constitutional Ammendment saying that they can't teach evolution in schools? The passage of this Prop just shows how ignorant the majority of people in California are. The funny thing is their primary weapon for passing this abomination was creating FUD about teaching about alternative lifestyles in public schools. By limiting teaching they are just helping to keep the ignorant that way.
