MAME Cabinet update

DSCN0712

I've done a bunch of updates to my MAME Cabinet over the last couple weeks.

It's now running a 2.0Ghz P4 with 2Gig of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce2 graphics card.

I also upgraded to Visual Pinball 1.60. I tried upgrading to MAME .125 also, but none of the classic games seemed to run very well, so I went back to MAME .079.

I couldn't get the new version of Visual Pinball to run in MameWah. This prompted me to move to GameEx - which is a VERY NICE front end for game cabinets and multi-media PC's.

One of the features of GameEx is the ability to launch Daphne games. A quick trip to Digital Leisure
and I was able to purchase the Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Box Set DVD-Video, which gives me LEGAL copies of Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair 2 and Space Ace to run on my cab.

While doing the upgrades, the monitor started to cycle through its color bands - time to buy a new monitor. After finally finding, and purchasing, a refurbished 21" CRT monitor, I was able to grab one headed for the donation pile at work. I could have probably returned the one I bought, but as hard as it was to find a 21" CRT now days - I'm going to keep it as a spare.

After I got done, I realized I had just spent a bunch of time/money working on the damn thing but the cabinet itself didn't look any different - so I purchased a marquee from mamemarquees.com. Though I should have ordered it about an inch taller, it looks a lot better than the home printed one I had before.

The picture above shows the new marquee as well as the GameEx front end.
